Program Length and Format

The Network Administration and Security Professional (NASP) program is delivered in a series of intensive face-to-face courses, employing a range of learning modes including lectures, seminars, computer labs, assignments and projects. The majority of courses are taught in an information-intensive way and focus on concepts and techniques.

This program is a full-time 80 credit program, delivered over approximately 11 months, mostly scheduled during the day, and may include some evening and weekend courses. This will include 67 credits for course work (approximately 9 months) and 13 credits for a Practicum (2 months). The NASP program is delivered at both UBC's Robson Square downtown campus and the BCIT downtown campus. The final two months are spent on site in an industry practicum.

All courses, including ones taught by UBC, will receive BCIT credits. Upon graduation from the program, students receive a certificate endorsed by both BCIT and UBC.

Who Should take this program

The NASP program is intended for those individuals interested in pursuing entry-level network administration and security positions. While admission from high school is possible, most candidates have job experience in the Information Technology area. Individuals currently working in relatively junior IT positions who want to acquire and/or improve their knowledge and credentials for career enhancement will also find the program attractive. Meeting minimum requirements does not ensure admission to the program.

Instructors

Courses in the NASP program are taught by highly qualified professionals with experience in adult education and are also vendor certified. Instructors have direct industry experience, and bring a wealth of practical information and industry networking knowledge to the programs.

Certifications

The following 9 vendor exam vouchers are included in the program fee. All 9 vendor certifications must be successfully written, and are required to graduate:

  • CompTIA Exam 220-701: A+ Essentials
  • CompTIA Exam 220-702: A+ Practical Application
  • CompTIA Exam N10-004: Network+
  • CompTIA Exam SY0-301: Security+
  • Microsoft Exam 73-640: TS: Windows Server 2008 Active Directory, Configuring
